ABOUT ME

Hi! I am Meha, a postdoctoral fellow at University of Konstanz, Germany. I finished my Ph.D. in 2024 from National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, India. My broad area of research is neuroscience.

I had a long journey from starting from my Ph.D. to my present position. The journey was not smooth, nor was it linear: I frequently stumbled and made mistakes but learned a lot along the way.

This blog is my attempt to tell you the lessons I learned, sometimes the hard way, and maybe help you make your journey easier. So, if you are starting your academic journey as a Ph.D. student or are well into it, this blog is for you! In this blog, I will write about all the things I wish I knew when I started my doctoral studies. It also includes some excellent advice I got from senior grad students back then.

Most of the things I am about to tell you in this blog are quite general and will apply to anyone doing a Ph.D. in science. But there will be some instances specific to life sciences. As I am doing a Ph.D. in India, my experiences are limited; so it might not always hold if you’re in another country.

Finally, a lot of what I am going to tell you is based on personal experience. I only am more experienced but not an expert! I leave it to your discretion to decide if it applies to you or not. In the end, everyone’s Ph.D. experience is different- so what worked for me may not always work for you!
